What to Expect

Starting therapy can feel a little uncertain, especially if you’ve never worked with a therapist before. You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before you begin. We’ll start where you are and take it from there.

1. Start With a Consultation

Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and finding the right fit matters. I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation so we can briefly talk about what you’re looking for, answer questions, and see whether my approach feels like a good fit for you.

2. Complete Your Intake

If we decide to work together, you’ll receive your intake paperwork electronically through my secure client portal. This gives me a better understanding of what brings you to therapy, your history, and what you’d like to work toward.

3. Begin Where You Are

Your first session is an opportunity to get comfortable, share what feels important, and begin identifying what you’d like to change or better understand. You don’t have to tell your entire story all at once.

Therapy isn’t a race, and there is no expectation that we immediately dive into the deepest parts of your past.

4. Find What Works for You

As we get to know each other, we’ll develop a treatment approach based on your needs, goals, strengths, and readiness. Depending on what you’re working through, this may include CBT, mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, strengths-based approaches, EMDR, psychoeducation, or other evidence-based strategies.

5. Build Skills, Create Change

Therapy is about more than understanding where your struggles come from. It’s also about learning how to respond differently, develop healthier patterns, strengthen relationships, and feel more capable of navigating life’s challenges.

We’ll work at a pace that allows you to make meaningful progress while respecting where you are along the way.

You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out

You don’t need the perfect words, a specific diagnosis, or a clear plan before reaching out.

You just need a place to start.
